Shyla Ray
Shyla is the Director of TNM Houston & Improv Wins.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Shyla has been an integral member of the New Movement Community from the very beginning. She has taught classes, camps, and corporate and festival workshops for The New Movement since 2009. Shyla moved to Houston and started the TNM group there in 2011.
She has also taught students at St. Patrick’s, St. Andrew’s, and St. James Episcopal schools, AISD, the CLC conference, Austin College, and American University. She is inordinately proud of having presented a paper at the National Gallery of Art.
TRAINING EXPERIENCE
Shyla grew up around improv, as a cast member of The Texas Renaissance Festival and Cavalier Days. After getting her Master’s in DC she researched all the best places do improv in the country and so came back to Austin! Her main study has been under Tami and Chris, and she has learned some pretty wonderful things at IO Chicago and from instructors hailing from the Dallas Comedy House, the Annoyance Theater, and The Second City.
ABOUT SHYLA
Shyla currently performs with Ideal Boy, Bare Moxie, ALSA, and The New Movement. She has performed some sweet shows (opening for Bassprov, Aphasia, The UCB All-Stars, Tig Notaro, and Jason Chin) and performed at some awesome festivals (the Improv Wins Confrence, the Del Close Marathon in NYC, Houston Fringe Festival, Hell Yes Fest, the Dallas, New Orleans, Houston and Oklahoma Improv Festivals, Fun Fun Fun Fest for the last three years, and she co-produces the Megaphone Marathons). Shyla went on tour with Tami Nelson eight months pregnant.
