Badass Comedy Shows and Training
The New Movement teaches “long-form” improv comedy, which focuses on scene work and group mind. Though our work is inspired by the founder of modern improv Del Close, we proudly teach a syllabus unique to TNM. New Movement improv classes train our students to make the smartest, strongest and funniest choices on stage. By focusing on the information at the beginning of scenes, our students create an improv road map within their first few moments on stage.
We teach five levels of improv classes; covering basic improv skills, dynamic, pattern, forms, and fostering your personal higher-level comedic style. Upon completion of your undergraduate studies at TNM we also throw your class a classy graduation ceremony/party complete with diplomas and good times! TNM also teaches sketch and comedy writing classes. Classes are the entry point for all kinds of participation in the fun things that TNM does and some experienced improvisers can begin with us at level two.

The culture of The New Movement is distinguished by a commitment to Ultimate Back Having; a system of support and celebration that means every TNM student joins a community of people who are dedicated to helping them find their own comedic voice and flourish creatively. We believe that the underpinnings of improv, radical support and affirmation for every idea, mean that there are no “mistakes”. That’s an outlook that carries over to the way TNM does everything. We work hard to make sure that our students and graduates have tons of opportunities for stage-time and lots of chances to showcase their ideas and projects, not on a competitive basis but within a relentless spirit of community and experimentation.
Because we are a three city network of theaters we’re able to provide unprecedented opportunities for our improv students in the South. TNM hosts improv festivals (Hell Yes Fest, Megaphone Marathons, Improv Wins Conference), books national and regional tours, produces special event shows and throws lots and lots of parties throughout the year. Our students and performers are able to collaborate on new levels as we foster a strong commitment to community between TNM Austin, New Orleans, and Houston .

All students and graduates of TNM are always welcome to sit in on any class level they have already completed for extra practice! All Improv and Sketch classes are $200/8 weeks. In some circumstances we grant internships to students for partial payment of tuition. Contact us to apply for an internship.
