This July, come study with The New Movement in New Orleans.  From July 21st - July 25th, our New Orleans theater will run The Megaphone Marathons Training Camp, a five-day round-the-clock improv intensive held in conjunction with the colossal improv festival known as the The Megaphone Marathons.

    WHO'S TRAINING CAMP FOR?

Training camp is for the improvisor with the heart and drive of an athlete.  We seek the type of improvisor who never stops pushing, who watches shows with an eye for every single detail and move, who craves more practice, more stage time, and more challenge.  If this sounds like you - whether you're a newbie or an old pro - we invite you to The Megaphone Marathons Training Camp.  Training Camp gives you an opportunity to learn all day, perform and explore our badass city each night, and take part in our epic improv festival, the Megaphone Marathons.  By the time you return to your home troupe, you will be a finely tuned improv athlete with the skills needed to take your game to the next level.

    HIGHLIGHTS

    • REPS - 30 hours of improv; over 200 scenes
    • STAGE TIME - A performance each night in front of an audience.   Graduation show at The Megaphone Marathons Festival

    CURRICULUM

Training Camp focuses its 30+ hours of improv on essentially one thing: solid engaging scene work.  We believe that many improvisors - in their haste to move through the curriculum, master advanced devices, and create the newest most novel form - neglect to develop the fundamental skill of creating consistently badass scenes.  Accessible to beginners and still challenging to experienced players, The Training Camp curriculum is a focused drilling of scene work, and draws on the following   concepts:

    • 9366536755_64c1289800_bConsistently starting scenes with power and clarity
    • Emotion and truth
    • Building multi-leveled Characters
    • Creating rich environments worth caring about
    • Patterns, heightening, and comedy math

All participants must have taken a level 1 improv class at an improv theater.

    Dean's List (NOLA)
Dean's List is a long-form improv troupe from New Orleans, LA formed by accident in 2012 while taking classes at The New Movement. Their longevity can be attributed to three shared beliefs: Ghosts Are Real, Blue Ivy Carter is Not a Robot, and Heightening Like The Fuck. They've performed at Hell Yes Fest (NOLA and Austin), and Improv Wins! in Austin. They can be seen regularly at The New Movement in New Orleans in their own monthly show The Lottery and in the rotating show, The Franchise. Their club-kid-weirdo-alter-ego short form improv act, MIAMI IMPROV MACHINE, has performed at Fun Fun Fun Fest and Hell Yes Fest (NOLA and Austin).

    Mr. Muscle (ATX)
Mr. Muscle is a brave new troupe for a troubled world. Forged in the belly of Mount Kilimanjaro, Mr. Muscle has come together to perform improvisational comedy the way it was meant to be performed. The members of Mr. Muscle have performed comedy all over the country, at places like Fun Fun Fun Fest, Hell Yes Fest, and Del Close Marathons.
Mr. Muscle = Nick Mallard, Jeff Whitaker, David Howe, Aaron Walther, Terance McDavid

    Water Park (ATX)
Water Park is Austin’s illustrious musical improv ensemble, featuring a team of improvisers who perform both as comedians and musicians. In a show that combines memorable harmonies with hilarious improv, Water Park redefines what it means to be entertained.

Water Park members: Adam Niederpruem, Amy Jordan, Megan Simon, Justin Strackany, Chrissy Shackleford, David Schwartz and Adrienne Brown. They’ve performed improv at every theater in Austin and a bunch of festivals all over the country, including UCB’s Del Close Marathon, Trill Comedy Festival, and Hell Yes Fest.

    Raw Honey (NOLA)
Raw Honey is Molly Ruben-Long and Kate Mason. Since meeting on the comedy scene in New Orleans they have put pen to paper and beer to belly on a quest to write sketch comedy together. Raw Honey is their heightened and absurd take on the female perspective, a blend of high and low brow that celebrates the smart, silly, and bizarre.

    Table (NOLA)
Table was left in a basket outside of the New Movement Theater in 2013 with a note saying that they would "do great things to ensure the survival of humanity".  They have since written no less than three sketches about masturbation.
Members: Valerie Boucvalt, Erica Goostrey, Nick Thomas, Nicky Napolitano

    Stupid Time Machine (NOLA)
Stupid Time Machine is CJ Hunt, Derek Dupuy, Mike Spara and James Hamilton.  They have performed sketch all over the country in the past five years, including San Francisco Sketchfest, Chicago SketchFest, Moontower, Hell Yes Fest, iO West, and more. Bad Example (ATX)
Bad Example is The New Movement Austin’s premiere sketch troupe. With a brand new show every month (and sometimes every week), featuring an all-star cast of sketch writers and performers, Bad Example delivers one of the hardest-hitting shows in town. Bad Example is Cody Cartagena, Ariel Greenspoon, Roxy Castillo, Micheal Foulk, Vanessa Gonzalez, and Jeff Whitaker.

    rude. (NOLA)
Colleen Allerton and Lauren LaBorde met in a sketch writing class at The New Movement. They are opposites — Colleen is a noisy extrovert with adult ADHD; Lauren has a writerly brain and a dour countenance — but through their love of messy reality TV heroines, excessive white wine consumption, and varying degrees of feminism they have forged a bond on and off stage that is "real fun to watch" (said some guy once). Together they created the viral video "My Purse, My Choice," which received over 400,000 views and was featured on MSNBC, The Today Show, CNN, The New York Times and your mother's Facebook page. They also do improv together at TNM.

    Zoology Club (ATX)
Zoology Club is the code name of a US government research operation experimenting in the behavioral engineering of humans. In 2013, humorous videos of Zoology Club, cryptonym ZKUltra, began surfacing shortly, followed by live sketch and improv experimentations. The two program engineers, Kelsey Rodgers and Stephanie Pace, continue to practice comedy in the United States with impunity.

    Super Computer (NOLA)
Super Computer is Derek Dupuy, James Hamilton, Mike Spara and Mike Yoder.  They are one of TNM NOLA's resident house teams with lots of individual credits.  Nothing compares, though, to the absurdity that occurs when they are together.

    Opposites (ATX)
Patrick and Mark are dear friends, but their contrary personalities make it difficult for them to tolerate each other for very long. They overcome this obstacle by communicating onstage as the comedy duo Opposites, hiding behind comedic characters and situations in order to convey their true feelings, and improvising an unscripted show along the way. The Opposites Show is your chance to eavesdrop on their conversation and observe the comedy that occurs when conflicting points of view meet. Patrick and Mark perform The Opposites Show every Wednesday at 8pm at The New Movement in Austin Texas.

    Parliament (ATX)
Made up of veterans of improv, film, theater, music, sketch, standup and even puppeteering, Parliament delivers a wildly fast, smart, and high-energy show that promises an entirely different show every time. Not locked to one set style, members of Parliament never know what kind of show they will be getting into until the moment the show starts
Parliament is Aaron Walther, Rob Gagnon, Chadwick Smith, Megan Simon, Lisa Friedrich, and Jeff Whitaker.

This show is presented by Hell Yes Fest!

    Meal of Sides (ATX)
Meal of Sides is an ensemble cast of veteran performers at TNM including G-Su Paek (Judge G-Su, The Megaphone Show), Karen Early (Liar Liar, The Megaphone Show), Elizabeth Nowrouz (Part II, Tourceratops) and Allen Edgar Rogers (Nixon, Bananas Foster Wallace). Playing their own version of Close Quarters--a pithy, Pulp Fiction-esque show form--Meal of Sides offers the audience everything from teeming, show-stopping, cerebral brilliance to the lowest form of primordial comedy--the pun. Most of all they have fun and you will too.

    LUCY (ATX)
LUCY is: totally in love with each other, best friends for life, and partners in crime.
LUCY likes: performing character driven improv together, finishing each other sentences, and making out on the beach. LUCY will: bring the comedy, start the party and probably close down the party.
We are Adam Artho, Stephanie Huerta Lujan,  Atticus Rowe, and Sheila Ray

    French Navy (NOLA)
The French Navy is a New Orleans-based comedy collaboration between CJ Hunt and James Hamilton.  This dynamic duo brings a show that is fast-paced, surprising, and truly one-of-a-kind.  The French Navy can be seen regularly at TNM New Orleans, has been featured in Hell Yes Fest and Megaphone Marathons, and hosted "The French Navy presents."
