How can young white people put down roots in a city that's maybe better off without them?
In this darkly comic one-man show, young white people move to New Orleans longing for a carefree place to call home. What they find is a city in crisis. Post-Katrina gentrification has ushered in expensive rent, bougie restaurants, and unregulated Airbnb—not to mention black displacement. All public schools are privatized. Income inequality continues to widen. Once the country’s largest slave market, New Orleans today is the world’s incarceration capital. In TRANSPLANT, writer-performer Dante Anthony Fuoco uses side-splitting parody and thoughtful social commentary to embody a dozen white newcomers, from the arrogant education reformer to the kombucha-loving yuppie. Through the hour, they struggle to confront not only white privilege, white shame, and racial injustice but a deeply uncomfortable question: How can I put down roots in a city that’s maybe better off without me?
Hot off a sold-out run last summer, this hilarious and thoughtful show returns to New Orleans for THREE FINAL PERFORMANCES.
SATURDAY August 19th at 7:30pm
FRIDAY August 25th at 7:30pm
SATURDAY August 26th at 9pm
Tickets $7 in advance, $10 at the door
***This show will likely sell out! Buy your tickets now and make sure to arrive at least 15 minutes early to guarantee a seat, as standing room is very limited!
Visit our bar Rosewood before and/or after the show for a drink!
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter your events?
Unless specifically stated above, our Austin theater is all ages and BYOB. However, if the event states that we're giving out free booze (which sometimes happens), you'll have to show a 21+ ID in order to partake. Our New Orleans theater has a full-service bar in it, so anyone 18 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Other than that, our programming tends to be PG-13 & up, so keep that in mind.
What’s your refund policy?
If you buy an online ticket, you should arrive 30 min before the start of the show to guarantee getting a seat because we also sell tickets at the door and usually have a crowd waiting for no-show seats. If you don't arrive at least 10 min before the show, your seats could be given out to people on our waiting list, and if that happens, you will not be entitled to a refund as we don't offer refunds after the show has started.
